Visa Appointment

Now that you have filled in your DS-160 (SEVIS i.e. I-901 can be filled 5 days prior to your visa Appointment) you are ready to take your Visa Appointment Date.

You will require the following material before you and take an Visa Appointment Date
  • Passport
  • DS-160 Confirmation Page
  • Pink Slip bought from HDFC bank
 Let us start taking a visa appointment by visiting https://www.vfs-usa.co.in/ApplnForms/SchduleMenu.aspx. The starting page will look like the image shown below

Step 1:
Please click on Continue and we will get the following page as shown  below



Step 2:
Please select I Agree click on Continue and we will get the following page as shown  below



Step 3:
Please select your Visa Expiry from the drop downs  then click on Continue and we will get the following page as shown  below


Step 4:
Please select the appropriate choices from
  • A resident of India/Bhutan
  • An Indian citizen residing in the US
Select the State of Residence from the drop down list

After which the page will automatically reload and you will get the options as shown in the image below


Step 5:
Select the language of interview from the drop down list which can be one of the following
  • English
  • Hindi
  • other languages depending on the area of selection
I advise selecting English as the course work in USA is in English and you need to show to the visa interviewer that you will be able to understand and study in USA.

After selecting the language select the Purpose of travel as "Studying in USA/ Exchange Visitor" the page

The page will reload to select the appropriate visa class the page will look as follows



Step 6:
Select the visa class as "F-1 (Academic or language studies)" from the drop down list Answer the question of Have you been refused a Visa twice within the last 2 months ? for most people the answer is "No" . The page will reload as shown below to fill in the following details.

Step 7:
Answer the question Are you applying for the same class of visa which is currently valid or has expired within  the pas 12 months?
I your answer is "Yes" then after selecting Yes you will get the following dialog bog opening which looks as follows



This happened because your Visa appointment comes under Renewal Criteria and please press "click here" below  "Yes" radio button.

For most people the answer is "No"
Clicking the CONTINUE button at the bottom of the page you will get the following page usually on the screen as shown below



This page shows that there is no appointment date available at the moment keep trying till you do not get the page which looks like this. The dates with green background are available for selection for interview


Now clicking on Continue we will get the following page as shown bellow.

Step 8:
Answer the question as shown in the image above and click on continue.
